The parish is active in many organisations, both church and non-church for both younger and older age groups. Activities take place in and around the churches on a regular basis.
The Friends of St Thomas’ is a charitable organisation which was formed in 1995 to raise funds through social activities for St Thomas’ Church. The idea when forming this group was to be able to encourage parishioners, who might not necessarily be church-goers, to feel included in the support and maintenance of St Thomas’ Church.
There are 3 Brownie packs, 2 Cub packs, Rainbows and several Guide and Scout packs in the parish who attend church for Parade Sunday services.
Two Toddlers groups meet weekly in the Parish Hall, a means for young mums and their children to meet socially. A new Toddler Service is being launched for the group led by one of the parish’s readers Maggie Owen.
Flowers play a very important part in all three churches and each church has a dedicated team of willing volunteers whose wonderful displays are seen each week during the services. Their talents come to the fore at Christmas, Easter and for all weddings. There are annual Flower Festivals where their gifts are allowed to flourish.
Our In Touch Bereavement Group offers support to those bereaved in the parish including home visits, as well as organising monthly lunches which allows a time for those to meet socially to help ease the pain of loss. The lunches are usually held in local pubs – of which there are many to choose from in the area!
A variety of lively social events are held across the parish, from quiz and bridge evenings to musical events and coach outings to places of interest.
